Ovary scan very confused ??

I am trying to get pregnant although i have very few periods. I recently went for a scan to look at my ovarys. There was follicles in my ovarys but not as many as they should be and not very large. What does that mean. Should you always be able to see the follicles on a scan or is it just certain times of the month. Is it good news that there are follicles there and i do at least produce something, could it mean they are growing but not reaching maturity. She did say that my uterus lining was very healthy which is one good thing. Please help i ma very confused
