I want to edit songs on my computer to just be the chorus, for ringtones. whats the easiest way?

i converted them from mp3 and wma to wav and used sound recorder but the quality was awful. i also tried using the program audacity but it converts it to a weird format tht cant be re-opened, even in the program i recorded it in. im not very good with computers, please help me!
